German Design Award 25:
Two awards for KEGGENHOFF I PARTNER
On February 7, the German Design Awards 2025 ceremony will take place in Frankfurt am Main. The event brings together design and industry experts and award winners to create a platform for outstanding design and innovative concepts. The event in Frankfurt sees itself as more than just an award ceremony - it is a meeting place for the international design scene, dedicated entirely to diverse perspectives and exchange.
In addition to the recognition and appreciation of the award-winning projects, the focus is on dialog - an opportunity to network, share experiences and pick up new ideas. Guests from various sectors, key notes and expert panels will provide inspiration throughout the evening. KEGGENHOFF | PARTNER is delighted to have been awarded two prizes again this year and thus to be participating alongside other designers in the wide-ranging discourse on the importance and impact of design. Our award-winning projects “Bewegung Bauen” and “Magenta Mitte” stand for our claim to design architecture and interior design in such a way that they create identity and create something new.
The “Magnet Mitte” Deutsche Telekom representative office in Berlin was praised by the jury for its successful transformation of existing structures. “It combines telecommunications and art in a clear design identity and creates open, inviting spaces that take into account both functional and design aspects.”
The “Bewegung Bauen” project impressed the jury with its high-quality interior architecture, which implements the concept of movement for a collection of vintage cars both in terms of design and construction. “The column-free interior enables functional use and at the same time an aesthetically pleasing presentation of the vehicles. The combination of aesthetics and functionality gives the space a special atmosphere.”
We are looking forward to the event and to exchanging ideas with other design enthusiasts.

Interior architecture and infrastructures:
different scale, same goal
With the Baukultur Report 2024/25, the Federal Foundation of Baukultur is once again highlighting the importance of sustainable, holistic planning and design of our built environment. At the heart of the current report is the topic of “Infrastructure”, which focuses on the qualitative development and adaptation of our built and technical infrastructure. This is not only about transport routes, energy and water supply, but also about digital and social infrastructures, generally the achievements of our common good, which have a lasting impact on life in urban and rural areas throughout Germany.
Since its first publication, the Baukultur Report of the Federal Foundation of Baukultur has not only been groundbreaking for German politics, but also represents an essential compendium for us. Contemporary issues are bundled, analyzed and rounded off with recommendations for action and best practices. The theoretical and empirical foundation enriches us in our daily practice, and at the same time it enables us in our role as experts in architecture and interior design to contribute to the (building culture) discourse and have our say. The interdisciplinary approach of the disciplines responsible for planning and construction in the report, which is aimed not only at politics but also at (committed) society, goes hand in hand with our lived reality of tackling complex projects with interdisciplinary teams. Not least for this reason, we would also like to contribute to the visibility of the initiative with our tools. Much concerned with the interaction of space, materiality and use, we adhere to our approach that good planning, architecture and interior design, at all scales, values existing structures.
Following on from the previous 2022/23 report on “Umbaukultur”, which focused on the need for resource-conserving, adaptable and integrative building practices, we take away the insight that the existing infrastructure also plays a central role in the building culture of the future. “Infrastructures” do not have to be created solely through new construction - rather, conversion, further development and careful transformation of existing systems are also decisive factors here in order to create functional and sustainable living spaces. This is not just about design quality, but also about creating sustainable, identity-forming spaces that focus on people and their surroundings. It’s easy to draw a parallel here.

Awarded: KEGGENHOFF | PARTNER wins German Design Awards 2025
We are delighted to announce that KEGGENHOFF | PARTNER has been awarded the German Design Award 2025 in the “Excellent Architecture” category for both the “Magenta Mitte” and “Bewegung Bauen” projects.
This prestigious award recognizes the exceptional creative achievement and lasting impact of our work and is a valuable recognition for us.
The German Design Award, presented by the German Design Council, is one of the most prestigious awards in the international design scene. Every year, the award recognizes innovative and pioneering projects that illustrate the transformative power of design for society and the economy. The award underlines the fact that design can make a significant contribution to overcoming social challenges and promoting sustainable development. More than ever, outstanding design can provide impetus and formulate answers to the questions of our time through multi-perspective approaches.
The German Design Award is presented by the German Design Council, the German brand and design authority. Its mission from the highest level: to represent the German design scene. Established in 1953 as a foundation on the initiative of the German Bundestag. The German Design Award has set itself the goal of promoting the diverse transformation tasks of our time through design and providing orientation for others through outstanding examples. We are particularly proud of the fact that our projects were selected by an international jury of renowned experts from the fields of design, business and science.
People shape spaces. Spaces shape people. The “Magenta Mitte” project, the interior design for Deutsche Telekom’s representative office in the capital, and the “Bewegung Bauen” project, a building in which we are responsible for the architecture and interior design and which houses the vintage car collection of a private collector, show in various impressive ways how dynamic architecture and interior design can enrich the experience and use of space. Design stories are retold, creating an open dialog between buildings, people and the environment. Both projects reflect our ambition to create innovative and future-oriented architecture and interior design with a clear focus on individualization and sustainable quality.
We would like to thank the German Design Council for these honorable recognitions and look forward to continuing on the path we have chosen - for the conviction that our holistic, well thought-out design opens up new perspectives and creates spaces that remain positively and sustainably anchored, working in the mind and heart.

Kirchen sind Gemeingüter: Manifesto for a new community of responsibility
In Germany, many church buildings are empty or at risk of being neglected due to falling parishioner numbers and declining funding. The Church Manifesto initiative is committed to preserving the substance of these historic and culturally valuable buildings and putting them to new use. A central demand: “The state and society cannot and must not shirk their historically justified responsibility for this cultural heritage. That is why we are calling for new forms of sponsorship to address the new situation: a foundation or foundation landscape for church buildings and their furnishings.”
KEGGENHOFF | PARTNER believes in the irreplaceable cultural value of church buildings for our society. We are fully committed to supporting the aims of the manifesto as the first signatory. In addition, we have been committed to a sensitive, innovative and sustainable future and transformation for sacred buildings in our professional practice for many years. A future that is based on its past in its diverse architectural richness, which we as planners feel committed to preserving and at the same time transferring appropriately into a new era.
Background: The Church Manifesto brings together actions by various interdisciplinary actors who want to encourage us as a society to rethink the way we deal with vacant and unused churches. The initiative calls on congregations, architecture firms and planners from every discipline to work together to develop new, creative concepts for the use of empty churches. The preservation of these buildings requires a combination of design sensitivity, an awareness of historical contexts and the ‘spirit of a place’ (genius loci), an eye for community and thoughtful transformation processes that do justice to the changing times.
Whether as a cultural meeting place, creative space or quiet place of contemplation - with the knowledge and tools of architecture and interior design, we support a variety of possible uses that do justice to both the sacred heritage and the current needs of the people who are shaping the new. We firmly believe that churches are not just historical monuments, but can also be used as places of the future for our cities and communities.

Day of Conversion Culture: Day for the future
Every year on November 8, the Federal Foundation of Baukultur has been calling for the Day of Conversion Culture - since 2022. On this day, the foundation presented its Baukultur report “Neue Umbaukultur”. Since then, the need for climate-friendly, resource- and cost-efficient construction in existing buildings has become increasingly clear. At the same time, municipalities continue to designate new building land, and demolition and new construction are preferred to conversion, extension and further construction in many places.
The Day of Conversion Culture sends an important signal for the sustainable and environmentally conscious design of the built environment and underlines the urgency of a well thought-out, respectful approach to our existing buildings.
KEGGENHOFF | PARTNER is passionately committed to an appreciative conversion culture that adapts existing structures to modern requirements and reinterprets them in a meaningful and appropriate way. For us, conversion culture is characterized by an attitude that empathically focuses on values such as quality, innovation, sustainability and resource awareness. A good conversion culture is future-oriented, while taking into account the history and uniqueness of a building or interior space. It expands its potential and gives it a new, contemporary meaning. Conversion projects create places that create identity and have an impact for generations to come.
On Conversion Culture Day, we would like to emphasize the importance of these values. We are convinced that a respectful approach to the existing building stock and a sensitive approach in terms of conversion culture make a decisive contribution to promoting a sustainable environment - for everyone, for a long time. Our work reflects this philosophy: projects that respect what already exists and at the same time create something new. Projects that refer to history, staging considerate moments of transition in parallel to introduce new functions and aesthetic impulses.
Celebrate and promote the culture of conversion with us - for architectures that preserve and responsibly shape our future!

Future needs origin: The JUNG Gründervilla
In the beginning there is an idea, in the end an actual building. After many years of construction, this process loses none of its magic.
As part of the competition jury, we are particularly pleased, together with JUNG, nga Architekten, international trade press representatives and all those involved in the project, about the official opening of the Gründervilla, which now welcomes its visitors in a new look and new formation.
Built in 1928 for the company founder Albrecht Jung, the JUNG Gründervilla has now been officially opened as a meeting and service center. This was preceded by a competition in 2017, which was aimed exclusively at offices founded by Jung. In contrast to most procedures in the German competition system, this deliberately focused on experimentation and the design approaches of “new” architects.
In addition to architect and interior designer Prof. Sabine Keggenhoff, the four-member expert jury from JUNG and Peter Cachola Schmal from the German Architecture Museum, the jury consisted of architects Prof. Jan Kleihues, Prof. Elke Reichel, Roger Riewe and Prof. Michael Schumacher. They had to evaluate a total of 33 works from Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Austria and Luxembourg.
Of the 33 works submitted, the jury, chaired by Michael Schumacher, decided on one first prize, two second prizes and two purchases. The winning design by nga Nehse & Gerstein architects from Hanover took a careful look at the existing villa and then created a striking new building that blends into the site, skillfully building a contrasting bridge between past and future. In its 2017 assessment, the jury already recognized and praised that “the authors are trying to strengthen the site in its entirety”. What does this mean? They strengthen the identity of the site by freeing up the existing villa, generating new visual references and perspectives and significantly enhancing the gardens through the resulting spatial setting. (Architectural film by JUNG x 9sekunden)
The architects proposed a flat, transparent structure, the roof of which is flush with the first floor of the villa and serves as a terrace. Its load transfer takes place via three set cores inside the new building. They define the open floor plan. The open space and the wide view of the valley, made possible by a glass façade on three sides, also make the new building attractive for events. Conference rooms and offices are housed in the villa. The materials used characterize the unobtrusive atmosphere: Exposed concrete and glass. We really like it!

Women in Architecture 2025: Strong women of today
Please make a note now: from June 19 to 29, 2025, numerous events throughout Germany will highlight the achievements of female planners and the topic of diversity in building culture. WIA 2025 is the first nationwide festival to highlight women in architecture, interior design, urban and open space planning as well as civil and structural engineering. As a decentralized networking event, WIA 2025 promotes the broad networking and exchange of institutions, associations and initiatives.
Interested in helping to shape WIA 25? The 2nd digital network forum will take place on September 12, 2024 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. for interested stakeholders to exchange ideas. Registrations are accepted via the form in the network forum. We are currently still looking for interested institutions, organizations, initiatives and associations related to building culture who would like to contribute their own program items and become part of a growing network.
In 2021, a festival on women in architecture took place in Berlin for the first time: With almost 100 events throughout the city, WIA 2021 put the focus on the achievements of female planners and female building culture.
The bdia (Bund Deutscher Innenarchitekt:innen) joined the initiative and invited 2021 to the talk “Frau Innenarchitekt - Zwischen Werk und Wahrnehmung”. Prof. Sabine Keggenhoff moderated the panel with Wencke Katharina Schoger (Reuter Schoger, Berlin), Karin Götz (Raum Form Licht Farbe, Potsdam) and Gabriela Hauser (buerohauser, Berlin). Starting point of the discussion: Interior design is the only branch of architecture in which women already really outnumber men and hold important positions. Why is it usually the male colleagues who make it onto the big stage?
Like the festival, Sabine Keggenhoff has also been focusing for years on counteracting the (in)visibility of female planners in the construction industry with a great deal of commitment, e.g. in teaching or public relations work as an interior designer - and a female player.
Why is this initiative (still) important? Today, women are represented in architecture in comparable numbers to their male colleagues and hold important positions. Nevertheless, their achievements and expertise often receive less recognition. Although awareness of diversity and equality has grown, the process of improvement is not yet complete. Continuous work and discourse are still needed to create and anchor non-discriminatory spaces - not just for many, but for all. Of course, this is best achieved together. This is why KEGGENHOFF | PARTNER supports the decentralized, nationwide networking event of the WIA initiative in order to promote the broad networking and exchange of institutions, associations and initiatives.

Magenta Mitte: Opening of Deutsche Telekom’s Representative Office in Berlin
The doors of Deutsche Telekom’s new, permanent Representative Office in Berlin will open on July 1. KEGGENHOFF | PARTNER planned the conversion of the architecturally formative existing building not far from Ebertstraße on the central and lively Potsdamer Platz.
Since the new home of the capital representation is located in the former, highly individualized Otto Bock Science Center, the spatial transformation into a separate design identity was one of the core objectives of the interior design concept. The visual-linguistic muscle and joint strands that play expressively around the façade merge into metaphorical networks in the new context of telecommunications, in the new DNA of the building.
Dynamic, emotional, stimulating: the design approaches of KEGGENHOFF | PARTNER work with interior design motifs that relate equally to the originality of the architecture and the values of Europe’s most successful brand. There is one goal: to connect people emotionally - at all levels.
The idea of networking is translated from the outside to the inside - and from the inside back - into a new, powerful language. It is sustainably formulated in the five storeys of the solitary building, supplemented by a roof garden. A variety of meeting places will be created, which will functionally, metaphorically and atmospherically bracket Telekom’s political, economic and cultural visions. The floor plan zoning, essentially made of wood with a radial access system, allows for different spatial scenarios that create new standards for modern working and communication according to their function.
A strong brand is an expression of a strong company, say experts. We would like to thank the Telekom team for their renewed trust in the design expertise of KEGGENHOFF | PARTNER and the successful, strong collaboration!

Architecture Day 2024:
Simply (re)build
“New, new, new? Is no longer contemporary.” Clear words from an interview by Sabine Keggenhoff with the FAZ/FAS, which appeared at the beginning of the year. What in words corresponds to a simple, clear truth, however, now names a complex and also polarizing paradigm shift in the planning and construction industry. What’s more, it affects our entire society: towards sustainability at all levels. But how? Change requires exchange, analysis, experience, transformation and performance. We know from experience: The complexity of the task requires the discourse of all those involved.
As every year in June, the Federal Chamber of Architects (BAK) and the state representations invite you to meet and exchange ideas on the “Day of Architecture”. Based on concrete examples and in direct discussions, building culture discourse takes place on a broad level between chambers, planners, users and interested parties. Be it during a tour of an energy-efficiently renovated detached house, an office building converted into living space or a new modular school building. Or during a guided tour of one of the many other projects worth seeing that open their doors to the general public on these days thanks to the commitment of the organizers and their members.
This year, these include in particular projects that show how to “Simply (re)build”. In other words, it’s about the huge potential that lies in converting and reusing existing buildings. What makes successful architecture and interior design? How can architecture and planning contribute to individual well-being, climate and resource protection and social cohesion? How can sustainability be achieved while at the same time being culturally sophisticated? For more than two decades, we at KEGGENHOFF | PARTNER have been working on tapping into this potential. With this year’s motto in mind, we take a look at our renovation projects that have opened up on Architecture Day in the past:

Building bridges, securing the future:
IFI World Interior Day 2024
“The Growing Generational Gap: Improved Multi-Generational Future”
IFI World Interior Day (WID) 2024 | Saturday, 25.05.2024
Choosen by the members of the IFI Annual General Meeting, this year’s theme for IFI World Interiors Day 2024 points to the challenge of the communicative gap between the generations. The potential of “interior architecture” and “design” will be highlighted during the event as instruments for creating meaningful transition solutions. On an international stage, the aim is to show that considerate, sustainable and adaptable design can create an environment that celebrates the diversity of generations and builds necessary bridges between the past, present and future.
The communicative power of interior design: Sabine Keggenhoff’s personal impression through the ages, from yesterday to today, read here.
Next Generation: Would you like a glimpse into the future? How do those who learn today design? Here you will find insights into the approach and emerging design attitude of the students that Sabine Keggenhoff has been accompanying in university teaching for many years.
Every year in the month of May, the IFI (International Federation of Interior Design) initiates a global theme that brings together interior designers, design professionals, companies, universities, institutions, governments and the general public in discourse. Around the world, WID activities usually vary from insights into open studios to lectures and events.
The bdia, the professional association of interior designers in Germany, is creating a digital exhibition to celebrate the day, inviting people to exchange ideas and find inspiration. It is intended to build bridges between the generations as a conscious step in line with this year’s theme. While an older generation still knows the necessity of physical museum visits, the younger ones have grown up in a world where information is just a click away. Both equally fascinating, it nevertheless remains an important question as to how the best of both worlds can be reconciled.

Living & value: Many people associate the refurbishment of our numerous and diverse old buildings with the supposed “pig in a poke”. Since the 19th century, the premise in Germany’s building landscape has been to tear down and build anew with the will for radical renewal. People were reluctant to rebuild, space and energy potential was lost, the supposedly unknown is always fraught with worry. But is this concern justified?
“An old house really is like a great unknown at first. It starts with the fact that the existing building often doesn’t match the construction plans from the past. The condition inside the house can also vary greatly. Some materials are poorly preserved, while others may have been allowed to age gracefully, such as natural stone or a wooden staircase. In houses from the post-war period, a lot of slag was used, and from the 1960s onwards, industrially manufactured materials were often used. What is their condition today, a good sixty to seventy years later? Is the building possibly contaminated with harmful substances, was asbestos used, do surfaces emit fumes? Many surprises can await you. Especially as you can’t look behind concealed walls or ceilings. If, like me, you do a lot of renovations, you expect everything,” is Sabine Keggenhoff’s opening response to questions from FAZ journalist Birgit Ochs in the “Living” section of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung.
You can read about the paradigm shift towards building in existing buildings and why Sabine Keggenhoff thinks that Germany urgently needs a conversion order and a new conversion culture in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung from 10.03.23.

On the international stage: KEGGENHOFF | PARTNER is awarded the IDA Award - Gold in the category ‘Interior Architecture’ for the project ‘Bewegung Bauen’.
The International Design Awards (IDA) recognize, celebrate and promote exceptional and visionary design in the fields of architecture, interior design, product, graphic and fashion design. The aim is to promote the appreciation of the work of established offices and to help emerging talents gain global visibility.
The IDA team follows its passion for interior design, seeing it as an expression of creativity and potential that transcends language barriers and appeals to everyone. It is not important whether design approaches are more classical or contemporary, whether listed buildings are restored or something completely new is created that is different from anything that has gone before. The changing, international members of the selected expert jury evaluate each work on the basis of its specific parameters and award a score that determines the awards.
Successful interior design involves much more than making rooms stylish and attractive. It is also always about recognizing the true potential of spaces, making them tangible and improving the well-being and attitude to life of its users in a sustainable and positive way.

Thinking up a new conversion culture: Sabine Keggenhoff in an interview with the Westfalenpost business section
“You can even convert a multi-storey parking lot into residential buildings without much effort. Vacant office buildings could very well be repurposed and converted into apartments.”
Germany urgently needs more living space. 400,000 new homes per year was the target agreed by the federal government in the coalition agreement. It is likely to be missed by a wide margin in 2024. For Sabine Keggenhoff, the solution to the problem is obvious: stop thinking in terms of new builds and concentrate on building in existing buildings. “400,000 apartments per year are possible without building anything new,” she assures us. (Article excerpt / Author: Jens Helmecke)
A paradigm shift towards a culture of conversion must be heralded: The focus of politics, administration, the construction industry and the public must shift from new construction to conversion, if only for economic and ecological reasons. This paradigm shift offers real opportunities for climate and resource protection, for a new understanding of design and for buildings that will still be valuable for future generations.

Material Award 2023: ‘Haus, das trägt - St. Victor’ receives award in the category Material im Bestand.
From the jury statement:
With ‘St. Victor - Haus, das trägt’, the Material Award 2023 honours something that was already there and recognizes that something was already there. And yet it is far more than just an award for the design expertise of KEGGENHOFF | PARTNER.
It is a tribute to their attitude, their consistent further development of an existing design signature, a monument, and even more: it is a tribute to their decision to literally look behind the façade and reveal the concealed construction and make it visible. To further develop the iconic building in a way that creates identity, to stage it perfectly with a strong lighting concept and to make it a contemporary experience with a high interior quality is something that deserves the utmost respect!
We would particularly like to thank the initiators Hannes Bäuerle, Joachim Stumpp and Jörg Schmitt from Raumprobe, the supporting companies (KSV Natursteinwelt, Material Bank, Object Carpet) and the jury (Philipp Beck, Peter Brückner, Jasna Moritz, Michael Schuster, Hannes Bäuerle, Joachim Stumpp).

Looking to the future II: The west wing of Benrath Palace
Sabine Keggenhoff’s judging work has been successfully completed, the winning designs for the general refurbishment of the west wing have been named by the top-class jury of experts!
KEGGENHOFF | PARTNER congratulates the offices of Spital-Frenking + Schwarz (1st prize), HPP Architekten (2nd prize) and VON M (3rd prize) on their successful and inspiring work. We would like to thank our colleagues on the jury for their excellent, enriching collaboration: Prof. Christian Heuchel, Prof. Sabine Keggenhoff, Hilde Leon, Prof. Dr. Christian Raabe, Prof. Johannes Ringel [Chair], Jan Stöfer, Cornelia Zuschke!
The winning design by Spital-Frenking + Schwarz impressed with its architectural and interior design concept, which envisages a self-sufficient, reversible pavilion as a visitor center in the courtyard. In addition to incorporating all functional necessities, the positioning and design of the pavilion clearly defines the temporal levels in the palace in a respectful and legible manner. The courtyard will continue to be preserved as an outdoor area in its historical structure and appearance.
The west wing is to house a new museum in future. The basis for this is the merging of the Natural History Museum and the Museum of Garden Art. This connection in terms of content is also reflected in the project name “Benrath Palace Museum - Gardens, Art, Nature”. The new museum will link the collections of the Museum of Natural History and the Museum of Garden Art in terms of content and address the interdependence of these spheres as a core theme.

Day of Architecture 2023: Architecture transforms spaces into places that shape our identity, our history and our future.
In June, the successful event series Day of Architecture (TdA) invites all interested parties throughout Germany to (re)discover districts, buildings, objects and interior spaces, parks or gardens as a resource and enrichment for everyday life under the motto “Architecture transforms”. How we build, develop and improve our cities, communities and neighborhoods has a decisive influence on our future. The relationship between the environment, materials, people and space must take center stage in order to create good and sustainable buildings for all areas of life that will also serve as a foundation for future generations. Building is never just private, but always public too.
All 16 chambers of architects in the federal states are taking part in this traditional format. The Day of Architecture addresses all specialist disciplines: Classic building construction, interior design, landscape architecture and urban planning. Numerous projects are available for viewing and discovery throughout Germany. Many colleagues are also taking part by opening their offices for exhibitions or talks about their work.

Planning sustainably, securing the future: Interior design, especially as part of the construction sector, with its diverse effects on the climate and environment, is called upon to rethink established processes and designs, to develop them further and to transfer them into a holistically sustainable future. It has long been clear that discourses can no longer remain theoretical and systematically viewed in isolation, but must be put into practice as soon as possible.
In an interview with Charleen Grigo (for bdia NRW), Sabine Keggenhoff spans the conceptual arc from the overall social framework to very specific, industry-related measures that the KEGGENHOFF | PARTNER office has taken in the past. The aim is to be able to actively shape the necessary changes. While synergy effects of different disciplines give hope, (everyday) challenges for varying office forms cannot be dismissed.
The interview, which we would like to highlight in May for IFI WID 23, can be found online in full on the website of the bdia Bund Deutscher Innenarchitekten here and will be published as an excerpt in the DAB (May).
IFI World Interior Day (WID) 2023 | Saturday, 27.05.2023
“Sustainability, Design & Beauty”
Every year in the month of May, the IFI (International Federation of Interior Design) initiates a current topic that brings together interior designers, design professionals, companies, universities, institutions, governments and the general global public. It encourages people to exchange ideas, come together, research, learn, discover and create in a shared discourse.

Excellent “interior architecture”: For the 10th time, the bdia is awarding the prize with tradition and signaling power for interior designers in Germany. This year, Sabine Keggenhoff is delighted to be the 2019 winner, alongside Pia A. Döll (President of the bdia), Martin Thörnblom (President ECIA), Petra Stephan (Editor-in-Chief AIT), Barbara Ettinger-Brinckmann, (former President BAK) and Susanne Wartzeck (President BDA) to be part of the six-member jury of experts.
With the German Interior Architecture Award (DIAP), the bdia promotes and honors innovative interior design projects that set an example in terms of conception, design and execution. The DIAP focuses on interior architecture, which, with its artistic, social and cultural aspects, is an indispensable part of the built environment. With the projects submitted, the interior design profession responds to the demands of society.
The prize-winning and award-winning works are intended to show the essential contribution interior designers make to society through planning and design quality.

Good school buildings are better for learning: Sabine Keggenhoff shares this conviction and will be part of the independent, expert jury for the “School Construction Award NRW” in 2023. Together with the Ministry of Schools and Education of North Rhine-Westphalia and the Chamber of Architects of North Rhine-Westphalia, the jury will award the prize.
With the “School Building Prize NRW”, the awarding bodies want to highlight the importance of the architectural quality of school buildings and emphasize their sustainable, positive influence on educational work in schools. As examples of good practice, award-winning school buildings also have a lasting influence on the quality of construction measures at other schools. They demonstrate what is feasible and increase motivation for the planning and implementation of construction measures.
The School Building Award is aimed at members of a chamber of architects as designers as well as clients or school authorities who realize outstanding and exemplary new construction and renovation measures in and around schools in terms of design and pedagogy.

Looking to the future: The west wing of Benrath Palace
Sabine Keggenhoff is delighted to have been asked to act as a judge, alongside experts and preliminary examiners, for the award ceremony and the naming of the prize winners in 2023.
The current structures of Benrath Palace and Park no longer meet today’s cultural, economic and museological requirements. The current general renovation of the buildings offers the opportunity to further develop and modernize the Benrath Palace and Park Foundation in accordance with its statutes and the resolutions of the Board of Trustees and to make it fit for the future.
The subject of the competition is the west wing of the Benrath Palace ensemble. In future, this is to serve as a space for the two museums of garden art and natural history. In order to meet the space requirements, it is necessary to include the previously unused inner courtyard in the planning so that it can be used as a weather-protected visitor center in the future. By incorporating the inner courtyard into the plans, it will be accessible to the public for the first time in future.
In order to achieve an optimal solution, a non-open, single-phase realization competition is now being held among 10 architectural firms. This was preceded by an application process to select suitable architecture and interior design firms. The competition entries will be submitted at the end of April 2023, with the jury meeting in June.

Two stars: REGIONALE project HAUS DER BAUKULTUR awarded another star!
As an active member of the Akteur:innen network, KEGGENHOFF | PARTNER is delighted about this good news at the end of the year.
The HAUS DER BAUKULTUR, designed as a workshop and competence center, was awarded a 2nd star by the REGIONALE committee on December 7, 2022. This clears the way for an application for funding and gives the topic of “sustainable building” further momentum in South Westphalia; together with the “Building with Wood” project to establish a competence and model region.
In addition to the creation of the CHARTA Sauerland-Baukultur, a key result of the model project “Sauerland-Baukultur | Strategies for South Westphalia” was to submit a project application as part of REGIONALE 2025. The network of Baukultur stakeholders had agreed on this. In recent years, this network has been formed as an interdisciplinary team from the fields of tourism, (interior) architecture, research, local government, industry and crafts in order to conduct building culture as an open and continuous dialog since around 2012.
The aim of a HOUSE OF BUILDING CULTURE is to ensure the long-term communication and exchange of information on the topic of building culture. The region-specific building and craft culture is to be promoted, the quality of the built environment enhanced and thus the regional identity strengthened. The HAUS DER BAUKULTUR will function as an educational and service facility, communication workshop and digital platform. With a team of operational management, proven partnerships and diverse collaborations - linked to a strong administrative team from the city of Arnsberg.

Four wins: Sabine Keggenhoff (interior design), Jens Mayerle (architecture) and Matthias Förder (landscape architecture) reflect on their collaboration for the Erzbischöfliche Berufskolleg in Cologne as part of an impulse and derive possible recommendations for action.
Under the motto “Four wins”, the NRW Chamber of Architects invites you to an interdisciplinary exchange of experience on November 24, 2022 from 3 pm to 6 pm in the Stadthalle in Mülheim an der Ruhr.
The signs of the times show that the exchange of experience between architects, interior architects, landscape architects and urban planners is becoming increasingly essential in order to master current and future planning challenges. These consist in particular in the topics of dealing with the existing building stock, interfaces and digitalization as well as sustainability at all scale levels.
The event is recognized as a seminar within the framework of the further education and training regulations for all disciplines of the AKNW with 4 hours.

Baustelle Gleichstellung: Book launch for the WIA Festival Berlin
Making women in architecture visible and audible, giving them a stage to showcase their achievements - that was the aim of the Women in Architecture Berlin Festival 2021. Together with many other institutions, associations and initiatives from the field of building culture, Sabine Keggenhoff took part in the Women in Architecture Festival 2021, or WIA Festival for short, last year to put the spotlight on women* in planning.
70 years after the death of Emilie Winkelmann, the first successful German female architect, the aim was to take stock: Who are the strong women* of today? Are they recognized? What about equality in building culture and the transformation of the profession? The publication shows what institutions from politics, teaching and business, what bosses and employees, university directors and professors can do or have already done to make progress on the construction site of equality.
A new, summarizing publication is now being published, which will be presented on December 1, 2022.

PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE - On October 20, 2022, the bdia Association of German Interior Designers will celebrate its 70th anniversary at the Detmold School of Architecture and Interior Design. Together with many other guests, the association is returning to the place where it was founded. A program in the form of a journey through the time zones of the past, present and future, jointly designed by the professional association and the university, accompanied the evening ceremony in Detmold’s summer theater.
KEGGENHOFF | PARTNER congratulates the bdia on its 70th anniversary from the bottom of its heart!
Our office has appreciated the professional commitment of the bdia for decades; the concise commitment of the federal office and many volunteers to make the competencies, achievements and interests of our profession visible. As a graduate and now teacher at the Detmold school, as a long-standing and active bdia member, Sabine Keggenhoff has come full circle.
KEGGENHOFF | PARTNER would like to thank everyone involved for the inspiring cooperation. Here’s to many more years!

best architects: KEGGENHOFF | PARTNER is delighted to receive the prestigious 2023 award.
We would like to thank the awarding authority and the jury, consisting of Andrew Clancy, Prof. Felix Waechter and Daniel Zamarbide, for this wonderful recognition and appreciation of our design work. We would also like to congratulate all the award-winning offices!
Almost all of the buildings were characterized by great creativity and unusual solutions. The submissions were so diverse in their approach that it was almost impossible to identify a dominant design trend. It is not so much the style that characterizes the projects, but rather the strategy and the joy of experimentation that are expressed in them, writes the promoter. The “best architects award” is one of the most prestigious architecture awards and is an indicator of architectural development in the top segment. Since its inception, the “best architects” award has been regarded as a seal of quality for outstanding architectural achievement.

WOMAN INTERNAL ARCHITECT: “It still takes a lot of self-confidence to make your way as a woman in architecture,” says the well-known English architect Alison Brooks. “We grow up with heroes and gods who are all male.”
With these words, the Museum Baukultur NRW introduced the exhibition “Frau Architekt. For more than 100 years: Women in the architectural profession” and thus defined the core of a debate about a gender balance in the architectural disciplines. The changing times bring change: our society is diverse. The goal: the people who build for it should represent this.(…)

IFI - World Interior Day 2022: Pride of the past, incentive for the future
Let’s celebrate!
Or why interior design is so important…
Space can do a lot. Space has always been able to do a lot. This not only shows us our well-being, but also the experiences of time. People’s interiors have always been particularly useful for drawing conclusions in order to form a picture of the times and its protagonists.
In addition to protection and privacy, interior design should always inspire, motivate and support its users as such. In addition to the emotional and sensory weighting, and - inevitably - the inclusion of functionality and appropriateness, it can be used powerfully in depth through its meaningfulness. Interior design stimulates and changes the perceptive faculty through its tools. It thus establishes a usable added value in the space and directly influences our social interaction, our way of interacting. Good interior design is subjectively many things, but objectively tangible, effective, goal-oriented, anchored in the mind and heart.

Into the blue: With Katrin and Jorrit de Louw, owners of Colornetwork, the Sustained Color No.6 was created in the Expert:innenrunde with Sabine Keggenhoff, Claudia Miller and Eberhard Müller.
‘dive deep!’ has a balancing effect on the soul and promotes well-being and balance. And yet it is profound, mystical and mysterious due to its light green content. It promotes creativity and awakens longings. “A leader” is what the expert panel says about this unique color and recommends combining it with warm counterparts in the room, such as natural woods - whether light or dark - and other natural materials, e.g. linen, sisal or rattan.
We would like to thank you for the inspired collaboration. Filtering and analyzing current color trends and tendencies in interior design together and then translating them into a new color for the Sustained Color collection was a great pleasure for us!

Workspace is also living space: Sabine Keggenhoff talks to Nicolas Stange as part of the “Encounters in transition” series about experiences and insights, thoughts and ideas on the future of the office.
Does the office still have a future? We are of the opinion: yes! There is a growing awareness that offices are primarily places of encounter. We now remember that workspace is also living space, where we spend a large part of our day. As interior designers, we can only launch the value of designed, physical places. We are primarily concerned with the potential development of the users, which can create an appropriate quality in the built space when people feel comfortable and welcome. Good interior design creates distinctive interior spaces that are tailored to the needs of users.

Best workspaces 22! We are delighted that our interior design for the working environment of the Dallmer headquarters in Arnsberg has been nominated!
Facets of water - The interior design of the working environment of the Dallmer Office acts as a new, representative hub for the company headquarters. Flowing spatial transitions are structured by the interweaving of circulation and communication areas. The concept follows the maxim of respecting the quality and dimensions of the new building by Wellie Architekten and using additive space-creating measures to make the separation of core and shell visible. The material and color canon picks up on the tonalities of the company. About the project

Longing for the sea: A collection of details and atmospheres
Curated by Sabine Keggenhoff
Longing.
No place seems more appealing and multi-layered than living by the sea: the cleansing power of water, mirrors of the sky, glistening and sparkling sunlight reflected back, warm sunset.
Our Mediterranean connects Europe, Asia, Africa. The histories and cultures of three continents meet on the coast, at the crossroads of unique, fused landscapes. The image of coastal architecture is fed by the fragments of the cultures, craftsmanship and materials of the region.
Local craftsmanship and its tradition establish the beginning of a new story here, which, in an act of transformation, comes up with new traditions. Warm colors, natural materials and decisive moments of contrast form a new unity.
Impressions from the projects are shown:

Women in Architecture A large number of (inter)national exhibitions, publications and talks are celebrating a new kind of professional visibility for women - including in the discourse on building culture. This increased awareness can only spur us on. Over 90 percent of students at the start of their studies are women. What does it take to survive in the often male-dominated world of architecture? Do women need to speak up and what role do structural inequalities play?
As part of the Women in Architecture WIA Berlin Festival 2021, Wencke Katharina Schoger (Reuter Schoger Architektur Innenarchitektur, Berlin), Karin Götz (Raum Form Licht Farbe, Potsdam) and Gabriela Hauser (buerohauser, Berlin) spoke about this in a panel discussion at Berlin’s DAZ on 17 June 2021. The discussion was moderated by Sabine Keggenhoff.

The value of concrete space: Sabine Keggenhoff is a guest at the 1st Symposium on Business Psychology & Interior Design 2021. The focus is on the consideration of qualitative interior design in the context of today’s working environments. The way to get there and the quality of the built space as a result are of fundamental importance for clients and interior designers, but also for all other disciplines. The communication space of this event is intended to bring psychology and interior design into conversation in order to illuminate the interdisciplinary potential for action.

A new creative culture: “Interior design is becoming more and more relevant every day in the context of change. Nevertheless, the communicative effect of interiors is still not sufficiently appreciated. Ultimately, interior design must position itself more strongly in order to be able to work in an interdisciplinary creative culture.” This is how the DDC (Deutscher Designer Club e.V.) introduces Sabine Keggenhoff’s article in the current DDC magazine Design Diskurs.

For interior designers, building in existing buildings is an old hat, where they bring real added value to projects with their extensive specialist knowledge, a wealth of experience and a view from the inside out (…).” In an article by Nina Greve for the trade magazine DenkmalSANIERUNG 2020/21, Sabine Keggenhoff argues for greater involvement of interior design in the future task of building in existing buildings.
